To upgrade marriage you need two things, affection and serendipity points. Affection can be obtained by giving each other flowers and by having a wedding party. You can have wedding for some gold every day. Those upgrade your marriage lvl.
Affection is gained from going on honeymoon which you can do once every day for either gold or amethysts. It's used to upgrade your rings.
